A JOB WELL DONE
It was as if Surya Deo Himself requested the perfect weather for a Walk-a-thon. With clear skies overhead, a warm glow from Surya Deo bringing the temperature in the mid 60’s and a refreshing wind moved the participants along effortlessly enjoying the five (5) miles long walk in Jamaica and Hollis, Queens NY.
The walk-a-thon was led by the spiritual leader Pandit Ram Hardowar, who challenged many of the youths during the 5 miles walk. Alongside Pandit Ram were Pandit Tulsie and Bhai Amar Persaud the President of Shri Surya Narayan Mandir. The group chanted many slogans and prayers en route and at times the NYPD joined in the rhythm. Refreshments were along the way and those who could not make the entire 5 miles were help with a trailing car. The walk seems to be over quicker than it got started because of the high level of exuberance and enjoyment by all.
Funds raised from this event will be going directly towards the Sanskriti Scholarship Award Fund and for our medical outreach program. Pt. Ram Hardowar has established a special scholarship fund for eligible youths of our community who are willing to pursue studies in Hinduism and Hindu culture. This annual scholarship fund which was established in 2008 has already made awards to three (3) youths of our community.
Our Medical Outreach Program is geared to help those who do not have medical coverage here in the USA as well as Guyana. We have already completed a successful medical outreach in NY and will leave with a Medical Team to Guyana on the 18th November 2009.
Special thanks to The New York City Police Department, 103 Precinct. The NYPD gave us an outstanding support and made the walkathon logistically easy for all the participants and observers. We look forward for their continued support and cooperation.
Our thanks and sincerest gratitude to all those contributed and participated in the Walk-a-thon 2009.
Surya’s Blessings to all.
