guruma yoga profile.jpgYoga classes are held every Tuesday evening at 7:00PM.  The Yoga instructor is Radha Hardowar and the style of Yoga taught is Vinyasa.  Vi -- in a special way & Nyasa -- to practice. Vinyasa means to place your steps in a special way. In this style of yoga, movement is being coordinated with the breath. The purpose of this entire session is to bring the mind to focus thereby helping you to be in better control of yourself, in other words to create that awareness and connection between body, senses, mind complex and Purusha.

Emphasis is also placed on increasing our devotion to God especially during the reading of Bhagavad Gita and the performance of Surya Namaskar. Here practicing Yogis are taught that one must surrender and seek the grace of God in order to recognize their true nature. Man’s absolute nature is essentially pure bliss or Anandam. Yoga enables us to explore and find this limitless joy and happiness within.

In A Typical yoga class at SSNM of  1hr 15mins we do the following:

  1. Class starts with sitting in proper Sukhasan
  2. Prayers are then recited
  3. Reflection on a few verses from Bhagavad Gita
  4. Discussion on the eight limbs of yoga
  5. Then some warm up poses – stretches etc
  6. Main asana for the evening
  7. Counterposes to release any tension
  8. Savasana
  9. Pranayama
  10. Closing Prayers
