The most important aspect of Surya Bhagawan worship is Arghyam – the offering of water to the rising sun because HE is the source of energy for the entire universe.
Procedure:
Stand facing east with a copper lota (container) filled with water.
Add red flowers, red Chandan, kumkum and some grains into the water.
Raise the hand over the head and pour the water allowing it to flow through the entire length of your body.
Chant as you pour the water.
“ Ehi Suryo Sahastransho, tejo rase jagat pate.
Anu kampai maam deva, grihana arghyam Namostutay”.
After offering the water, touch the water with right hand & touch forehead, eyes & throat, seeking blessings.
The most important ingredient for you to have as you are worshipping Surya Bhagwan is bhakti – pure love in your heart. Don’t get too bogged down on the differences you find in the Shastras. For clarifications on this, you should seek guidance from your Guru.
May the grace of Surya Bhagwan always be with you.
