On July 10, 2009 Shri Surya Narayan Mandir held its annual graduation ceremony for its four year Surya Veer Sang Classes. Over 75 youths with smiling faces were issued diplomas and graduation sashes by the Mandir’s President Amar Persaud.

The Surya Veer Sang classes is quickly growing in popularity not only locally in Queens but it has  graduates from the Bronx, Brooklyn, Nassau and even out in Suffolk County, Long Island.  Every Hindu child is encouraged to participate in this four year intensive program which has classes held weekly on Friday’s and Sunday’s.

The curriculum is broad based covering the fundamentals of Hinduism along with various aspects of our culture and values.  Every student has to successfully complete each year before they are promoted into the next year of the Program. Each year consists of three (3) semesters and there are three (3) written exams every semester. The final grades are based on the results from these exams coupled with oral tests, attendance, punctuality and class participation. Students of all ages, including many parents take advantage of this program provided by the Mandir and very often give rave reviews about their experiences.

The Surya Veer Sang has been conceived, developed and coordinated by the Spiritual Leader of Shri Surya Narayan Mandir, Pandit Ram Hardowar. He carefully drafted the syllabus for each year, increasing the depth of material covered in each succeeding year. He currently supervises a group of qualified and dedicated Teachers who all give voluntary services.  Sarika Persaud teaches the first year class, Sharda Budhu teaches the second year, Pt. Sewram Hardowar teaches the third year and Mataji Radha Hardowar teaches the fourth year class.  Pt. Tulsi Bissessar fills in when any one of the teachers cannot make it for classes.

Congratulations to all the Graduates of 2009. May Surya Bhagwan continue to bless all the students and teachers of this most needed program.
