SSNM FL successfully completed its 8th Annual Spiritual Retreat/Youth Camp from June 17-24, 2012. This year it was a very memorable week with over 40 campers. Everyone enjoyed the different activities throughout the week. Each day began with salutations to Surya Bhagwan in the mandir yard. Shortly afterwards, the campers performed yoga and pranayama led by Bhai Adarsh Singh. After breakfast, we had lectures by Camp Director Pt. Vishnu Hardowar, as well as Varsha Hardowar and Natasha Singh. We were also joined by Pt Narain Harpaul and his daughter Arati, who spoke to the campers about various topics. In the afternoon, we had guest speakers such as a construction engineer and chiropractor, who discussed their profession with the kids. Later in the afternoon, campers split into groups to practice the skit, dancing, and music. The Symposium on Saturday showcased the talents of the campers. All of the campers joined in chanting the Hanuman Chalisa as well as mantras from the Eshwar Prathnaa. Campers displayed what they learned in the dance group, singing group and the skit, “Oh, So Yuh Think Yuh Bad,” which portrayed the problems prevalent in the Indo-Guyanese community.
